A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: First Season Concludes on Sky Atlantic

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest prequel to Game of Thrones, has now aired in full on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. The season finale was broadcast on 23 February 2026, following a six-episode run that began on 19 January.

Set approximately a century before the events of Game of Thrones and 100 years after the start of House of the Dragon, the series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a young knight, and his squire Egg. The Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne but are without dragons, which are only within living memory.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s three novellas—The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003) and The Mystery Knight (2010)—the show features an entirely new cast. Notable actors include Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, and Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen.

Episode four aired earlier than usual on 6 February to avoid clashing with Super Bowl LX in the US. HBO has confirmed a second season, with filming starting in Belfast, Ireland in December 2025, and a release expected in 2027. The network hopes for at least three seasons, one for each novella.

George R.R. Martin has praised the first season, writing on his blog on 28 January 2025 that he had seen all six episodes and loved them, calling the actors “just incredible.” The series is part of the expanding Game of Thrones universe, which includes the original 73-episode series and House of the Dragon, whose third season launches in June 2026.
