Dexter: Original Sin Renewed for Season 2

Paramount+ has plunged its knife back in, officially greenlighting a second season of the highly anticipated prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. The announcement confirms fans will get to witness more of the formative years of America's most beloved fictional serial killer.

The new season will continue to follow Dexter Morgan's dark beginnings in Miami, exploring his journey under the sinister tutelage of his father, Harry (played by Christian Slater). The series charts how Harry's unique Code shaped a traumatised boy into a meticulous, justice-driven killer.

A New Face for a Young Dexter

Stepping into the iconic role made famous by Michael C. Hall is Irish actor Patrick Gibson (The OA, Shadow and Bone). Gibson will portray the young Dexter, balancing a seemingly normal life as a university student and intern at the Miami Metro Police Department with his gruesome, nocturnal activities.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips, the mastermind behind the original series' most acclaimed seasons, returns to steer the prequel. He is executive producing alongside Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, and Mary Leah Sutton.

What to Expect in Season Two

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the series is expected to delve deeper into:

  • The complex and morally corrupt relationship between Dexter and his father.
  • The origins of Dexter's infamous Dark Passenger and his struggle to maintain a façade of normalcy.
  • Early cases at Miami Metro that put his secret life at risk.
  • The development of his forensic skills and ritualistic killing methods.

The renewal ahead of the show's debut, slated for late 2024, signals immense confidence from Paramount+ in the project's potential to revitalise the blockbuster franchise for a new audience.
