Australian pop star and Eurovision finalist Delta Goodrem has been confirmed as the third celebrity contestant for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, BBC bosses have announced. The singer, who finished fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna with her track 'Eclipse', joins previously announced contestants Lacey Turner and Dani Dyer.
Goodrem, 40, rose to fame playing Nina Tucker on the Australian soap Neighbours before launching a successful music career with hits such as 'Innocent Eyes' and 'Born To Try'. She is one of Australia's best-selling artists and joins a list of Neighbours alumni who have achieved global music stardom, including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.
The upcoming series marks a new era for Strictly, as long-time presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have left the show. They have been succeeded by a trio of hosts: Johannes Radebe, Josh Widdecombe and Emma Willis.
Goodrem had previously hinted at her participation during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, stating: 'Every time I've ever been in the UK and I get immersed into it. I love music with all my heart but as I said before Eurovision, I'm always open.'
Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater on EastEnders, was the first celebrity announced for the series. Dani Dyer returns after an injury forced her to withdraw last year. The BBC typically reveals its line-up from August onwards, but this year announcements have come earlier.
