Death in Paradise Fans Recognise Guest Star Kate O'Flynn

Fans of Death in Paradise were left doing a double take as they instantly recognised the show's guest star, Kate O'Flynn, from her iconic role in the hit series Widow's Bay. The BBC is currently airing repeat episodes of the crime drama, and Wednesday night saw series 11, episode five play, originally broadcast in 2022.

Neville Parker's Sister Arrives

In the episode, Ralf Little's character DI Neville Parker is confronted with the death of a young popstar at a rehab clinic, which initially appears to be a tragic accident. However, Neville is convinced there is more to the case. The episode also marks the arrival of Neville's sister, Izzy, who surprises him and soon interferes in his life.

Kate O'Flynn's Role

The character of Izzy is played by actress Kate O'Flynn, 40, who appeared in three episodes. Viewers will recognise her for playing Patricia Moyer in Widow's Bay, as well as roles in Everyone Else Burns, My Lady Jane, and Bridget Jones's Baby. At the time of the original airing, fans took to social media to express their recognition. One viewer said: "I recognise Izzy from somewhere!" while another wrote: "Where have I seen Izzy before!? @deathinparadise she looks very familiar #DeathInParadise!"

No Return for Izzy

It appears there will be no return for Izzy on Death in Paradise due to the departure of her on-screen brother Neville. In 2024, Neville decided to leave Saint Marie after four years to explore the world. Since then, Don Gilet has taken over as the lead, playing DI Mervin Wilson. Speaking about joining the show in 2024, Don said: "Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!"

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
