Coronation Street Fans Express Disgust Over Megan's Latest Scheme

Coronation Street viewers have been left feeling physically sick after the latest disturbing twist in the ongoing grooming plot involving teacher Megan Walsh and teenager Will Driscoll. The controversial storyline on the long-running ITV soap took a manipulative turn as Megan continued her inappropriate relationship with the young student, sparking outrage among fans.

Megan's Deceptive Maneuvers to Conceal the Affair

In recent episodes, Megan, portrayed by actress Beth Nixon, has been embroiled in an illicit affair with Will Driscoll, a teenage student at the school where she teaches. The scandal has escalated with Megan even falling pregnant by Will, adding layers of complexity and moral reprehension to the narrative. To obscure her tracks, Megan has entered into a relationship with fellow educator Daniel Osbourne, played by Rob Mallard, who is the son of iconic character Ken Barlow.

However, Will's jealousy over this arrangement boiled over on Christmas Day when he violently attacked Daniel. Although Daniel recently deduced that Will was the perpetrator, Megan has been desperately working to divert suspicion, fearing exposure of her secret. In Tuesday's episode, set in the fictional Manchester locale, Megan persuaded Daniel to drop the matter entirely. She orchestrated a meeting at the Rovers Return pub, ostensibly to plan Will's upcoming running competition, but her true intent was far more sinister.

Viewer Reactions and Social Media Backlash

Fans of Coronation Street took to social media platform X to voice their intense disapproval and nausea over Megan's actions. One viewer exclaimed, "Megan makes me sick. Don’t apologise to him Daniel ffs, someone catch Megan and Will ffs!" Another expressed confusion, questioning, "Right someone help me out here, didnt Megan and Daniel split up not long ago? Did I dream this?" to which a fellow fan clarified, "Think they did split briefly, then got back together a couple of weeks ago. I don't think you dreamt it!"

Additional comments highlighted the paradoxical nature of the character, with one noting, "Megan is a horrific character but nobody can deny that the actress who plays has impeccable skin. I need to know her secrets," while another humorously remarked, "Considering [Will's grandmother] Maggie markets herself as Ireland’s answer to Jessica Fletcher how has she not put two and two together about Will and Megan."

Sam Blakeman's Growing Suspicious and Megan's Desperation

Meanwhile, schoolboy Sam Blakeman, portrayed by Jude Riordan, has become increasingly suspicious of the affair. Despite Megan's threats to stay away, Sam observed Will sneaking into Megan's flat. When Will claimed he was only there briefly to arrange a sports meeting, Sam cleverly recorded the duration of the visit on his phone, noting that they emerged after over an hour.

Inside the flat, Megan grew anxious about having Will over and decided to book a hotel room for them both. Her panic peaked when she spotted Sam watching from outside, exclaiming, "Has he gone now? Sam! He's everywhere!" Will attempted to reassure her, saying, "Sam is not as smart as he thinks he is, right? We're fine, come on," before they drove off into the night.

Producer Insights and Future Storyline Developments

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has provided insight into the direction of this contentious grooming plot. She emphasized the importance of portraying the story truthfully, noting that Sam's involvement will lead Megan to take even more extreme measures to maintain secrecy, ultimately harming Sam's wellbeing. Brooks stated, "It’s a very important story to tell and we want to be as truthful as possible. As part of that story Sam will end up getting embroiled in it all. Sam is semi-related to the pub family and he potentially gets wind that something’s amiss. We will see the lengths that Megan will go to manipulate Sam into keeping quiet. It’ll be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing."

Coronation Street continues to air weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and the ITV X streaming service, keeping audiences engaged with its dramatic and socially relevant storylines.
