Claudia Winkleman has quit her BBC chat show after just one series, leaving fans hopeful that another iconic programme, Alan Carr: Chatty Man, could return to fill the gap. The Traitors host fronted seven episodes of The Claudia Winkleman Show earlier this year, produced by Graham Norton's company, but has decided not to continue.
Winkleman's Statement on Leaving the Show
In a statement, the mother of three said: "I’m incredibly grateful to the BBC for giving me the opportunity, to the guests who agreed to come and chat to me, and the production team who were simply excellent. Sometimes you have to try something to see how it fits, and I realised I was just too nervous to enjoy it. Maybe one day I will give it another try, but for now I already have the best jobs in the world and absolutely love the shows I'm doing."
During its seven-week run, the show featured a roster of famous guests including Lisa Kudrow, Jeff Goldblum, Niall Horan, Rachel Zegler, Ralph Fiennes, James McAvoy, Jamie Dornan, Vanessa Williams, and new Strictly Come Dancing co-host Josh Widdicombe.
Fans Call for Return of Alan Carr: Chatty Man
Following Winkleman's announcement, social media users quickly speculated on what could replace the talk show in the BBC's schedule. One fan wrote on X: "Now get Alan Carr in and BBC redo Chatty man!!" Another added: "Its needs to be Alan Carr." A third person said: "Yess bring chatty man back!!" Someone else agreed: "I miss Chatty Man sooo much."
Alan Carr: Chatty Man aired on Channel 4 from 2009 to 2016, running for 181 episodes. The show featured celebrity interviews, sketches, topical chat, and music. In 2013, Carr won a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance. The first episode attracted 2.15 million viewers, and the series produced 16 series, with the eleventh being the longest at 18 episodes.
Chatty Man's Spin-Off and Carr's Future Plans
Chatty Man was replaced by the spin-off Alan Carr's Happy Hour, which began in December 2016. The spin-off was similar but without celebrity interviews or alcohol, aiming to attract a younger audience. Happy Hour ran for three episodes and featured guests like Rebel Wilson, Honey G, Michelle Keegan, Lady Gaga, Amanda Holden, and John Legend.
Carr, who won the first series of Celebrity Traitors hosted by Winkleman, has said there are currently no plans to revive Chatty Man. Speaking on the Table Manners podcast with Lennie and Jessie Ware, he stated: "It would be nice to do a chat show. I don't know. I read about it and thought, 'Oooh Chatty Man's come back', but no one's approached me or anything."
The Claudia Winkleman Show is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
