Catchphrase Winner Reveals Stephen Mulhern's Kindness Behind the Scenes

A contestant who became the first to win the £50,000 jackpot on ITV's Catchphrase has shared her experience on the show, describing host Stephen Mulhern as 'lovely' off camera.

Adei Bundy, a self-proclaimed superfan of the programme, won the top prize in 2016 after progressing through all rounds, including the Super Catchphrase. She recalled that before filming began, Mulhern came over to wish the contestants luck and told them to enjoy the experience.

Bundy, who had to audition in Manchester before filming in Kent, admitted she made unintentional innuendos during the show, such as guessing 'a rocket in his pocket' and telling Mulhern she was 'good with both hands' when explaining ambidexterity. She said these comments were completely innocent.

Reflecting on her preparation, Bundy said she completed the entire Catchphrase app, watched every available episode including old ones hosted by Roy Walker, and noticed that some catchphrases are repeated. She advised future contestants to hit the buzzer as soon as they have any idea, even before the clip restarts, to ensure their buzzer registers first.

Bundy described winning the final Catchphrase as feeling 'like swallowing a firework on live TV' and said she was shaking. She also noted that the audience of 200 people was a surprise, but she remained focused on the game.
