Ben Affleck's F1 Grand Prix Outing Sparks 'Sad Affleck' Meme Revival
Ben Affleck attends F1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas

Hollywood star Ben Affleck cut a contemplative figure as he made an appearance at the Formula One Grand Prix on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit this Friday, inevitably drawing comparisons to his legendary 'sad Affleck' meme.

A Thoughtful Presence at the Paddock

The 53-year-old actor, whose exhausted 2016 photo became an internet sensation, was spotted arriving at the paddock area before the final practice sessions for the prestigious race. Affleck kept comfortable in a stylish blue jacket featuring a cosy brown collar, layered over a grey sweater. He paired this with khaki trousers and appeared clean-shaven for the high-profile sporting event.

This public appearance comes more than eight years after the original 'sad Affleck' photograph captured global attention. That now-iconic snapshot, taken in London back in 2016, depicted the Oscar winner looking weary and deep in thought while wearing a blue sweater and jeans, holding a cigarette.

Behind the Scenes: Affleck's F1 Documentary Project

Affleck's attendance at the Formula One spectacle follows significant industry news about his latest production venture. He is joining forces with his best friend Matt Damon to executive produce a documentary focusing on legendary F1 aerodynamicist Adrian Newey.

Their production company, Artists Equity, is collaborating with Whisper Group and Mark Stewart Productions on the film, currently working under the tentative title Turbulence: The Greatest Mind in Formula One. The project will chronicle Newey's surprising career move from Red Bull to Aston Martin for the 2025 season.

The documentary promises unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Newey's new team at their Silverstone headquarters. It will follow his ambitious mission to design a World Championship-contending car for the British automotive brand. Newey boasts an incredible track record with 12 World Constructors' Championships and 14 World Drivers' Championships to his name.

More Than Just Racing: Affleck's Vision

Speaking about the forthcoming film, Affleck revealed his enthusiasm for the project extends beyond motorsport. He described it as being 'about so much more than just racing, it's about a living legend whose unrivaled career is full of ambition and reinvention.'

The actor elaborated further, explaining that 'It's those deep human attributes that we at Artists Equity feel so connected to and want to share in the stories we tell. We're honoured to help bring Adrian's story to life alongside all of our incredible partners.'

The previous day, Affleck had been photographed in Los Angeles, keeping warm with a cigarette before heading to the Beverly Hilton for the American Cinematheque Award ceremony honouring Michael B. Jordan. Affleck and Jordan have maintained what the latter described as a 'big brother-little brother kind of relationship' since Affleck recognised Jordan's star potential following his breakthrough performance in Fruitvale Station back in 2013.
