The finale of 'And Just Like That' has left fans disappointed, with a heavy-handed and far too faecal farewell. The episode, which aired after a sudden announcement that the show would end with season three, featured a vile plumbing disaster and a deeply unconvincing callback to the original 'Sex and the City' finale. Showrunner Michael Patrick King claimed season three was 'a wonderful place to stop', but the abrupt ending sparked tabloid rumours that HBO was pulling the plug.
The spin-off, which began in 2021 without Kim Cattrall's Samantha, was initially criticised for being cringey and cloying. However, over time, it found its stride with absurd escapism and warm moments, such as Charlotte braving a snowstorm for condoms and Miranda's encounter with a nun played by Rosie O'Donnell. The second half of season three saw the show improve, but the finale failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
The Thanksgiving-themed episode saw Carrie hosting a dinner that descended into chaos when a toilet overflowed with excrement. Miranda, meanwhile, dealt with news of becoming a grandmother with shrill hysteria, while Carrie pondered her romantic future, concluding: 'I have to quit thinking, maybe a man, and start accepting: maybe just me.' The finale ended with Carrie strutting around her apartment in heels to Barry White's 'You're the First, the Last, My Everything'.
While some viewers may feel relief that the show is over, many will be disappointed by this whimper of an ending. The series deserved a much camper sign-off than this sad, faecal farewell.
