Netflix has added baseball legend Barry Bonds to its Major League Baseball announcing team for the upcoming season. The all-time home run leader and seven-time National League MVP will debut during Netflix's opening-night game on March 25, when his former team, the San Francisco Giants, host the New York Yankees.
Bonds joins a roster of former MLB stars including Albert Pujols, Anthony Rizzo, CC Sabathia, and Hunter Pence, alongside host Elle Duncan and reporter Lauren Shehadi. The team will also call the Home Run Derby on July 13 and the MLB at Field of Dreams game on August 13, both streaming live on Netflix.
This marks Netflix's first MLB broadcast after signing a three-season deal with the league in November, alongside NBCUniversal and ESPN. The Wall Street Journal valued the agreement at $800 million per year, reflecting the growing demand for live sports content.
Bonds, a polarising figure, holds records for most career home runs (762) and most in a single season (73 in 2001). However, his legacy is marred by doping allegations that have kept him out of the Baseball Hall of Fame. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1986 to 1992 before spending 15 seasons with the Giants, winning a World Series in 2002.
