Peaky Blinders Fans Question Lizzie Shelby's Absence in New Netflix Film
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man recently premiered on Netflix, sparking widespread confusion among dedicated viewers due to the notable absence of several major characters. The film centers on Tommy Shelby, portrayed by Cillian Murphy, emerging from exile to rescue his son Duke Shelby, played by Barry Keoghan, from a Nazi conspiracy aimed at altering the outcome of World War II.
However, fans have been left wondering about the whereabouts of Arthur Shelby, Finn Shelby, and Lizzie Shelby, among other pivotal figures from the original series. This article delves into the fate of Lizzie Shelby, Tommy's second wife, as depicted in the Peaky Blinders television show.
What Happened to Lizzie in Peaky Blinders?
Warning: This section contains spoilers from the Peaky Blinders TV series.
In Season 6 of Peaky Blinders, Lizzie Shelby, played by Natasha O'Keeffe, ultimately decides to leave Tommy after the tragic death of their daughter, Ruby Shelby, portrayed by Heaven-Leigh Clee. Ruby succumbed to consumption while Tommy was absent, as he was preoccupied with attempting to lift a curse he believed had been placed on her.
Tommy's obsession stemmed from a cursed sapphire he had given away, which he thought was responsible for the deaths of his first wife, Grace Shelby, and another child. Upon his return to Birmingham, Tommy believed he had successfully lifted the curse, but it was too late—Ruby had already passed away. A heartbroken Lizzie was left questioning her husband's whereabouts during their daughter's final moments.
To compound her anguish, Lizzie discovered that Tommy had been unfaithful, sleeping with Diana Mitford, a move intended to gain the trust of fascist MP Oswald Mosley. This betrayal further strained their already fragile marriage.
In her emotional farewell, Lizzie delivered a poignant message to Tommy, stating, "You are cursed Tommy. Never to understand the limits that other people will accept. Never to be allowed in where everybody else is. Cursed never to be lifted."
When Tommy mentioned he would be departing for an extended period, Lizzie revealed her hands, devoid of wedding rings, and informed him she was "already packed." She expressed her desire to "say goodbye to Ruby" before making her final exit, leaving Tommy forever.
Lizzie was also unable to take their son, Charles Shelby, with her, explaining that Tommy would not permit it. In the new film, it is disclosed that Charles is serving on the front lines in North Africa during the war.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is currently available for streaming on Netflix, offering fans a continuation of the Shelby family saga, albeit without some beloved characters like Lizzie Shelby.
