Ruth Langsford has reportedly joined forces with Eamonn Holmes' first wife, Gabrielle Holmes, to support the presenter when he needs them most. Days after it emerged that the Northern Irish broadcaster's girlfriend, Katie Alexander, moved out of the £1.3million flat they shared, a source has claimed that Eamonn's two ex-wives put the past behind them and 'came through' for him.
Health struggles and absence from GB News
The 66-year-old journalist suffered a stroke in April. The stroke added to a series of previous health struggles, including chronic mobility issues, a 2021 back injury, a broken shoulder, 2016 double hip replacements, and past spinal surgery. His condition has also meant that Eamonn has been absent from his role co-hosting the breakfast show on GB News, with stand-in presenters, including Alex Armstrong and Ellie Costello, filling in.
A source has claimed that while Ruth, 66, and Eamonn have been "completely and entirely at odds with one another" for a long time after their 14-year marriage ended in 2024, the TV presenter and her ex's first wife, Gabrielle, are "clubbing together and rallying around with the kids to protect Eamonn."
Ex-wives unite
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the source shared that Ruth and Eamonn "couldn't communicate directly" at some point as "things became very difficult." However, despite being "really upset" about their separation, Ruth, who shares son Jack with Eamonn, is said to have "managed to put this behind her" due to her "genuine concern" for her ex-husband.
"Ruth and Gabrielle have come through when Eamonn needed them the most," the source said. "It has been a lot of pressure for Eamonn's children, and having both the support of these two women has been most helpful." Gabrielle and Eamonn share three children - Declan, Rebecca and Niall.
Ongoing health battles
Eamonn has battled with his health over the years, undergoing surgery for both hips to alleviate chronic hip, leg, and back pain in 2016. After that, he fell down the stairs and fractured his shoulder. He then got a painful infection and later had severe spinal issues that led to bladder and bowel problems and a nine-day hospital stay. Later in 2022, he suffered another fall.
Eamonn has not been seen in public since April. He was absent from the TRIC Awards in the summer and offered his thanks to his viewers via a pre-recorded message after GB News won the Best News Programme Award for the fourth consecutive year at the annual ceremony. In the message, he addressed his ill health: "I'd dearly wished I could have been there to celebrate with the team, but for now my focus has to be on making a full recovery and getting back to my best."
Eamonn thanked those who had wished him well amid his poor health, adding: "I'd also like to thank everyone who has sent their kind get-well messages. They really do mean the world to me." Eamonn Holmes' and Ruth Langsford's representative declined to comment.
