October 2026's best new mobile games: Warhammer, Mini Motorways, Dave The Diver
October 2026's best new mobile games round-up

October 2026 marks one of the strongest months for mobile gaming in years, with notable releases including Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom and the best version of Mini Motorways yet. The latest crop of mobile titles is a genuinely vintage selection, featuring the mobile port of Dave The Diver, a new Kingdom Rush entry, and a free art-driven game called Sisyphus – The Walk Down.

Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD

Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD (iOS & Android, £6.99, Ironhide Game Studio) celebrates the series' 15th anniversary with another refined tower defence experience. It retains the franchise's trademarks: upgradeable turrets, individually controllable heroes, troop reinforcements, and spells, alongside upgrade trees to strengthen defences.

Each map presents its own challenges, including sudden streams of mobs appearing near the base you're defending. The difficulty is robust, with three-star completion ratings proving serious even in normal mode. The premium price combined with high-cost microtransactions has sparked some controversy online, but none of the add-ons are essential. The game itself remains first rate. Score: 8/10.

Dave The Diver and Dawnfolk

Dave The Diver (iOS & Android, £10.99, MINTROCKET) brings its pixel art style to touchscreen after impressing on PC and console. It starts as a well-calibrated 2D diving simulator with a risk vs. reward structure, then expands into a universe of polished minigames. Touch controls are serviceable, with the onscreen joystick handling sushi delivery, and there's plenty of content. Score: 8/10.

Dawnfolk (iOS & Android, full game £7.99, Short Circuit Studio) is a tactical game of exploration and management where you bring light to a dark land one square at a time. You balance your people's needs with resource generation, upgrading buildings, and conducting research. Story mode offers a plot, while sandbox and endless modes focus purely on expansion tactics. It delivers an involving 4X style experience. Score: 7/10.

Mini Motorways and Sisyphus

Mini Motorways (iOS, included with Apple Arcade subscription, Dinosaur Polo Club) is a solid gold classic. You connect houses and commercial buildings of matching colours to keep traffic flowing. This month adds Singapore, whose harbour side, plains, and winding river lead to unusually high scores. The slow build culminates in a mesmerising spaghetti junction of roads and motorways. Sister game Mini Metro is also available on Android. Score: 8/10.

Sisyphus – The Walk Down (iOS, free, Play it Faster Games) releases October 7. Inspired by Greek mythology and Albert Camus' essay, it offers a sub-half hour of narrative with methodical, unproductive labour, creating a meditative calm. Poetic, thought-provoking, and free, it's recommended to everyone. Not yet on Android, but playable free online. Score: N/A.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom (iOS & Android, Nitro Games) is a boomer shooter that plays like the original Doom, with blocky visuals and a low frame rate. You play an Ultramarine pursuing foes through corridors, using ranged guns or a chainsaw at close range. On-screen controls work but have too many buttons for comfort on mobile, making a Bluetooth controller better, especially at higher difficulties. Score: 7/10.
