Veteran broadcaster John Craven has disclosed that Queen Camilla admitted she and King Charles occasionally watch the BBC's Countryfile, following a cryptic remark from the monarch himself.
The 84-year-old journalist, who has been part of the programme since 1989, recalled a visit to Highgrove House to film an episode. When he asked the then Prince of Wales if he watched the show, the King replied he 'couldn't possibly say'. However, Camilla later confirmed they do tune in from time to time.
Speaking to Great British Life, Craven also expressed concerns about the UK's environmental record, lamenting that 17 million single-use drinks containers are discarded daily rather than recycled. He described finding piles of empty bottles in a remote cave system, highlighting the widespread nature of the problem.
His comments coincide with the Labour government's announcement of a £1.1bn investment to improve local recycling facilities across England. Circular Economy Minister Mary Creagh said the funding would help 'end the throwaway society'.
Libby Peake of Green Alliance welcomed the policy shift, noting that costs are now being placed on packaging producers rather than councils and taxpayers. Craven continues to appear on Countryfile, which airs Sundays at 6.15pm on BBC One.
