Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has reportedly held talks to invest in Liverpool FC as negotiations with owners FSG continue.
Mr Bezos, estimated to be the world’s fourth-richest man, has been approached by a consortium led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel giant Lakshmi Mittal, who relinquished his controlling stake at Queens Park Rangers to pursue a deal for the Reds.
A spokesperson for FSG previously told the ECHO: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
However, Mr Bezos is ‘not certain to proceed’ with joining the consortium, the report adds. It remains unclear how much of the club Mr Bhatia’s group are interested in purchasing, with some suggestions indicating they could take up to a 30 percent stake, valuing the club at roughly $6 billion (£4.485b).
American investment in Premier League
Mr Bezos’ rumoured involvement would continue the trend of American money pouring into the Premier League. About half of the 20 top-flight clubs are part or fully-owned by US firms, including Manchester United with the Glazer family, Arsenal with Stan Kroenke, and Leeds United with San Francisco 49ers Enterprises.
FSG are one of the Premier League’s longest-standing American owners, taking control of the Reds in 2010. Led by John W. Henry, the club has secured three EFL Cups, two Premier League titles, a Champions League win, a Club World Cup victory, and an FA Cup in that time.
New era at Anfield

Iraola has worked quickly to rebuild his squad, bringing in World Cup winner Victor Munoz into his side for a reported £34.5m. Yesterday (July 21), officials confirmed the signing of youngster Samuel Martinez from Colombian team Atletico Nacional for the 2027-28 campaign.
