Journalist Charlotte Griffiths has broken her silence regarding her previously undisclosed exchange of intimate text messages with Prince Harry, describing the Duke of Sussex as “undeniably mischievous” in a newly published article for the Daily Mail. Griffiths, currently the Editor at Large of the Mail on Sunday, first revealed the correspondence in early April, referring to Harry as “Mr Mischief” and “H Bomb” in their messages.
Details of the Text Messages
The texts, which were unveiled earlier this year, included references to a “fun weekend of naughtiness” and phrases such as “sugar,” “Griff,” and “Miss our movie snuggles,” as reported by The Times. The messages came to light after Prince Harry told a court in January that he was not friends with any journalists linked to his legal cases.
In her Daily Mail article, Griffiths wrote: “But suddenly those messages, in which I had spoken about the ‘fun weekend of naughtiness’ and Harry had recalled our ‘movie snuggles’, were interpreted as evidence of some sort of romantic liaison. In fact, we’d merely shared a blanket during a film screening in a sitting room with other people present on a Sunday afternoon. The ‘naughtiness’ referred to excessive alcohol consumption.”
Clarifying the ‘Cinderella’s Shoe’ Reference
Griffiths also addressed a reference by Harry to a “Cinderella’s shoe” in a separate message, which she said inspired “misleading headlines suggesting we had been intimate.” She explained that the reference was to borrowed shoes she used to “head outside for a cigarette.”
Speaking of the backlash she received, Griffiths described it as “sickening,” though she acknowledged that journalists “shouldn’t complain when they are scrutinised.” She also recounted a shooting weekend they both attended at a 4,000-acre estate in Hampshire.
Prince Harry, who is currently in the UK, has not commented on Griffiths’ latest disclosures. The revelations have reignited discussions about the Duke’s relationships with the media and his ongoing legal battles.
