Princess of Wales Embraces Fashion Diplomacy in Nigerian Green at Windsor Banquet
The Princess of Wales demonstrated the royal art of fashion diplomacy during a glittering state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday evening, carefully selecting attire that paid homage to Nigeria's national colours.
Green Gown Echoes Nigerian Flag
Kate opted for a glamorous, long-sleeved evening dress in a precise shade of green that perfectly matched the green of Nigeria's green and white national flag. The demure, high-necked gown was designed by Singaporean fashion designer Andrew Gn, showcasing the Princess's thoughtful approach to diplomatic dressing.
This sartorial choice follows in the tradition established by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who frequently incorporated national emblems or colours of visiting nations into her wardrobe during state occasions.
Daytime Tribute to British-Nigerian Design
Earlier in the day, the Princess had already shown her support for Nigerian heritage by wearing a tailored grey coat dress with white collar and buttons created by young British-Nigerian fashion designer Tolu Coker during the ceremonial welcome for the visiting dignitaries.
Royal Regalia and Accessories
For the evening banquet, Kate complemented her green gown with her favoured Lover's Knot tiara, a piece famously cherished by Diana, Princess of Wales. She also wore earrings that once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II, along with the King's family order and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.
Royal Family's Formal Attire
The King and the Prince of Wales both appeared in traditional white tie and Windsor tail coats, complete with medals, chest and neck orders, and various decorations appropriate for the formal state occasion.
The Queen selected a cream embroidered gown designed by Fiona Clare, accessorised with a sapphire and diamond tiara and matching earrings from the late Queen's collection. Her ensemble also included a diamond serpent necklace, the Garter sash and star, and the King's family order.
Nigerian First Lady's Traditional Attire
Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, honoured her heritage with a striking pink, white and black Nigerian Gele turban headdress paired with a sparkling black gown, creating a beautiful fusion of traditional and contemporary Nigerian fashion.
The state banquet was hosted in honour of Nigerian leader President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, bringing together British royalty and Nigerian leadership in a celebration of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
