Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been criticised by fans after sharing a new video featuring their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Duchess of Sussex posted the clip on social media over the weekend, showing the seven-year-old prince riding a scooter on a tree-lined country road while his five-year-old sister walked alongside him, with a herd of deer visible in the background.
The video, set to "My Girl" by The Temptations, also featured the Sussexes' Labrador, Pula. Neither Harry nor Meghan appeared in the footage.
Fans accuse couple of 'merching' children
Some fans criticised the couple for sharing videos of their children while simultaneously campaigning for privacy. User Nancy Sidley, who often criticises the Sussexes on X, wrote: "At this point, merching their kids' backpacks and showing them in their school uniforms seems far more important to Harry and Meghan than their children's safety."
Another user blasted: "Any parent knows you don't show your kids backpacks and don't put their names on them as it's an easy target!!" A third commented: "They are heading nowhere. Hahaha! Just told the kids to walk, just walk!" A fourth said: "What I don't understand is, why show them at all if they want privacy? If they are going to show them, show their faces. The whole thing is just weird."
Upcoming UK engagement
The criticism comes as the Sussexes prepare for their first joint engagement in the UK. Their visit to Nottingham will be their first royal-style engagement together since returning to the UK. Nottingham holds a special place for the couple, who made their first joint appearance there after announcing their engagement in 2017. The itinerary appears to resemble visits they made before stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
They are expected to visit a number of organisations, including a community recording studio that Harry has visited before, most recently in 2025.
Return to the UK
Since returning to the UK in August after living in the US for six years, the Sussexes have been involved in a public spat with Buckingham Palace over their status and security detail. They have reportedly settled in the Cotswolds, and their children have moved schools after issues were raised by their security team about the school run.
Last month, a letter sent on the King's instruction insisted that Harry and Meghan should be viewed as "private citizens" on their return to the UK, which "surprised" the Sussexes.
