Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is allegedly 'sorry beyond words' for the burden he has placed on his family following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, according to a royal author. The former Duke of York has lost all his titles and honours and has been banished into royal exile after disturbing details of his relationship with the convicted paedophile emerged.
Beatrice and Eugenie Absent from Royal Ascot
While the Palace made clear the changes would not affect his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, the sisters have been keeping a very low profile in recent months. Beatrice and Eugenie only joined the royals at Peter Phillips' wedding in the Cotswolds earlier this month and have been absent from other royal events. On Tuesday, the first day of Royal Ascot 2026, royal fans were disappointed when the sisters' names were nowhere to be found on the royal procession list.
One fan wrote online: 'Don't ban Beatrice and Eugenie.'
Andrew's New Life in Isolation
Now, author Andrew Lownie has released an updated version of his book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, on his Substack and gave a rare glimpse into what the former Duke of York's new life is like in isolation. Andrew moved to Norfolk back in February, leaving his home of more than 22 years, Royal Lodge, in Windsor.
Mr Lownie claimed Andrew is feeling lonely and had allegedly told a member of his staff: 'It's been very hard to deal with. The hardest thing was how it affected my family and put so much burden on them. For that, I'm sorry beyond words, and unfortunately, will have to bear that regret for the rest of my life.'
The source claimed that Andrew added: 'My life has been turned upside down, and often I feel a deep-rooted sense of being alone in the world. I need to establish new routines and networks. Perhaps I'll end up doing it somewhere else.'
Hope for the Future
The disgraced former prince allegedly thinks he has been 'misunderstood' and is hopeful that one day, 'the naked truth' will come out. Andrew was nowhere to be seen during this year's Trooping the Colour and he was also absent from Garter Day earlier this week. His Order of the Garter appointment was annulled last year, after he lost his titles and honours. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing.
