In an exclusive revelation, Sue Radford, the matriarch of Britain's most famous large family, has confirmed that her eldest daughter Sophie's decade-long marriage to Joe Bradley has come to an end. Speaking ahead of the new series of the family's television show, 22 Kids & Counting, Sue shared heartfelt insights into the personal challenges faced by her daughter.
Family Announcement on Television
Sue Radford, 50, disclosed that Sophie, 32, has decided to publicly address the marriage breakdown in the upcoming episode of the show, which airs on Sunday. "We are really proud of Sophie for sharing this on camera," Sue stated. "She wanted to share how she was feeling and how she is feeling now." This marks the first official confirmation from the family, although speculation had been rife since Sophie described herself as 'single' on Instagram last May.
Supporting Sophie Through Heartbreak
The Radford parents, Sue and her husband Noel, 51, expressed their support for Sophie during this difficult time. "Sadly, a lot of marriages do break down and you can't fix them," Sue reflected. "Some people do decide to go their own way. They aren't together anymore, but they are making it work with their three children." Noel added his hopes for both Sophie and Joe's happiness, emphasising their long-standing relationship with Joe.
Witnessing their daughter's heartbreak was challenging for Sue and Noel, who are based in Morecambe, Lancashire. They first noticed issues during a family holiday to Orlando, Florida, in April last year, celebrating Sue's 50th birthday. "We realised it had been brewing for a while," Sue explained. "Sophie couldn't live like that anymore. She is definitely a lot happier now."
Co-Parenting and Future Hopes
Despite the split, the family dynamics remain amicable. Sue noted that Joe continues to be involved with their children, visiting after school to help out. "Joe was around at Christmas with Sophie and the kids at ours," she said. "He is very hands on, which is nice." When asked about Sophie potentially meeting someone new, Noel responded positively, "Yes, definitely. But when she is ready. She is in no rush and she is getting herself into a routine being a single mum."
In a lighter moment, Noel, who runs a pie business with Sue, joked about their own marriage, "Sue is lucky to have me!" This contrast highlights the family's resilience and humour amidst personal trials.
