Strictly Come Dancing returned for its third week of performances, but some viewers were left so frustrated with new presenter Josh Widdicombe that they muted their televisions.
The BBC show now features a hosting line-up of Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe, a change that has split audience opinion. During Saturday night's live show, viewers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the comedian's contributions.
Viewers call for 'intervention'
One viewer asked: "Anyone else muting the presenters?" Another posted: "We need an intervention for Josh at this stage." A third insisted: "Please be quiet Josh, the jokes aren't joking."
Some audience members also sensed the judges appeared uncomfortable, with one noting: "I get the feeling even Craig isn't impressed with Josh", reports Wales Online.
Craig Revel Horwood exchange
The complaints followed an interaction between Josh and judge Craig Revel Horwood after Dani Dyer's Tango. Judge Anton Du Beke had offered observations about Dani's frame and stride, using his arms to illustrate the aspects requiring attention.
Josh subsequently mimicked the arm gestures while seeking Craig's verdict, causing Craig to appear bemused as he enquired: "What are you doing, Josh? What's that about?" Fortunately, all parties seemed to take it in good humour as Josh, Emma and Craig laughed.
Mixed reaction to new presenting team
Despite the criticism, numerous supporters noticed considerable progress with the presentation. One viewer stated: "I'm enjoying the presenting tonight. Everyone seems so much more relaxed." Another remarked: "I will say this week Josh Widdicombe was better as he didn't look like he was the odd one out with Emma and Johannes."
A further supporter posted: "Controversial maybe, but I think the Strictly presenting line-up is great. Emma brings the professional broadcaster experience, Josh is a hilarious loose cannon and JoJo is great doing the after dance bit, I think he's a natural. Keep going guys."
Josh has described his Strictly journey so far as "joyous", saying of working with Emma and Johannes: "That we feel like a team where there's no ego. That there's no one wanting to put themselves out front more than the others. That we feel like we've all got our different personalities and they gel together."
Strictly Come Dancing returns for the results show tonight on BBC One at 7.10pm.
