Strictly Come Dancing's first celebrity elimination of the series took place during Movie Week, with actress Jaime Winstone and partner Carlos Gu landing in the bottom two. They were saved by the judges, while celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden were sent home.
Expert sees tactical advantage in early dance-off
Body language expert Judi James, speaking to Paddy Power, described Winstone's visible reaction to being in the dance-off. "Poor Jaime's reactions at being in the dance-off were clearly visible and mainly un-hidden by any mask of stoicism," James said. "Her mouth pulled in different directions and her body undulated and shimmied as though she had physically been shocked."
James noted Winstone "crossed her legs at the ankles in a self-diminishing pose" and showed "a battle between facial expressions as she veered between a polite smile and a grimace." Despite this, James believes the early scare could work in Winstone's favour.
Potential and popularity highlighted
"It tends to happen to most of the contestants, even the very good ones, and it can be better to get it over early and hope that it's a one-off, which it usually is," James explained. "Jaime is actually full of potential, and she is also a popular character."
James added that it is now down to Carlos Gu to ensure the experience does not erode Winstone's confidence.
Leaderboard and next steps
At the top of the Movie Week leaderboard were dog trainer Graeme Hall and Lauren Oakley with 31 points for their Waltz, followed by Australian singer Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington with 30 points for their American Smooth.
Winstone and Gu performed a Viennese Waltz to INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" and will be watched closely this weekend to see if they avoid the bottom two again. Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
