Former rugby union star Joe Marler has spoken out after being eliminated from the BBC's Celebrity Traitors, describing the experience as 'heartbreaking'. The 35-year-old correctly identified comedian Alan Carr and singer Cat Burns as the remaining Traitors, but was betrayed by his friend, actor Nick Mohammed, who voted to banish him instead of Carr.
Marler told BBC One's Saturday Kitchen: 'I was also expecting to win. I thought me and Nick, really, we'd nailed this one. I was heartbroken. He didn't stick to my plan.' Despite the disappointment, Marler expressed affection for Mohammed, saying: 'I still was so in love with him... I really enjoyed Nick. He's fantastic.'
The finale, which peaked at 12 million viewers, saw Carr win the entire prize pot of £87,500. He has since donated the money to children's cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK. Marler praised Carr as 'unbelievable'.
Following the show, Marler announced his new podcast, 'Joe Marler Will See You Now', launching on November 13 on BBC Sounds. The podcast will feature the former Harlequins forward as a 'pseudo-psychologist' interviewing celebrity guests. In a promotional TikTok, Marler jokingly snubbed Mohammed, throwing his phone aside when the actor called.
