EastEnders is set to revisit one of Walford’s former romances next week as Nancy Carter and Zack Hudson unexpectedly reconnect. Nancy, played by Maddy Hill, finds herself face-to-face with her ex Zack, played by James Farrar, and it seems their complicated history hasn’t completely extinguished the spark between them.
The surprise reunion comes as Nancy continues to settle back into life in Albert Square, but things aren’t exactly running smoothly for her. In next Tuesday’s episode, October 13th, Nancy is still frustrated by Linda Carter’s meddling in her life. However, her mood soon changes when she unexpectedly runs into Zack.
Reunion at The Vic
Despite everything that happened between the former couple before Nancy left Walford, the pair manage to reconcile and agree to meet for a drink at The Vic. Could spending time together again cause some old feelings to resurface?
Nancy and Zack certainly have plenty of history, with their previous romance ending under far from happy circumstances. The pair first became close in 2021, although their story began in an unusual way after Nancy was accidentally hit by a car while Zack was driving with Frankie.
History of heartbreak
Their connection eventually developed into something romantic, and Zack and Nancy began a relationship. However, things came crashing down the following year thanks to Zack’s betrayal. In 2022, Zack slept with Sam Mitchell, keeping the truth from Nancy as their relationship continued.
When Nancy eventually discovered what had happened, Zack desperately tried to save their romance. In an attempt to prove just how serious he was about her, he proposed, but his grand gesture didn’t have the effect he’d hoped for. Nancy rejected the proposal, believing Zack was acting out of panic following the revelation of his cheating rather than because the timing was right for them to get married.
Unfinished business?
Their relationship subsequently fell apart, and Nancy eventually left Walford, bringing their turbulent romance to an end. Years have now passed since their dramatic split, meaning both characters have experienced plenty without each other.
But Nancy’s return to the Square has inevitably put her back in Zack’s orbit, and next week’s encounter suggests there could still be unfinished business between them. Their decision to head to The Vic for a drink following their reconciliation could offer the former couple an opportunity to finally move beyond the hurt of their past.
On the other hand, being back together could remind them of exactly what attracted them to each other in the first place. For Zack in particular, seeing Nancy again is bound to bring back memories of a relationship that once became serious enough for him to consider marriage. And despite Nancy’s frustration elsewhere in her life, Zack clearly manages to lift her spirits when they cross paths.
Whether their drink at The Vic remains a friendly catch-up or develops into something more remains to be seen. But with Nancy and Zack finally putting their previous differences aside, could EastEnders be preparing to give the former couple another chance at romance? Or will the painful history between them prove impossible to forget?
