The BBC train thriller that failed to impress critics has been renewed for a second season. Despite being compared to the hit drama series 'The Bodyguard' upon its release in 2024, 'Nightsleeper' received a 42% score on Rotten Tomatoes and harsh reviews from publications like The Radio Times and The Guardian, the latter calling it 'fantastically dreadful'. However, it attracted 8.5 million viewers for its first episode, becoming the BBC's biggest new drama launch that year.
New Setting for Season Two
The second season will move from a hijacked sleeper train to a ship sailing across the Irish Sea. The broadcaster promises that behind every cabin door lies another story and surprise. Series writer Nick Leather expressed excitement, stating that the passengers and crew on a Belfast to Liverpool ferry will experience six hours of non-stop thrills, spills, secrets, and lies. Not all will make it to the other side.
Production Details
The first episode of the new season is titled 'Belfast Lough', an area of the North Channel connecting the Irish Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. Executive Producer Kate Harwood noted that audiences embraced the show and that the new story will be bold and tense, packed with new characters and twists. Filming will take place in Belfast later this year, though a release date has not yet been announced. Season one is available on BBC iPlayer.
