Susanna Reid's Easter Break Sparks Viewer Support Amid GMB Hosting Shuffle
Susanna Reid's Easter Break Sparks Viewer Support on GMB

Susanna Reid has been flooded with supportive messages from devoted viewers after addressing her temporary absence from the ITV morning programme Good Morning Britain. The beloved presenter, who has been a cornerstone of the show since its 2014 launch, typically appears alongside co-host Ed Balls, but is now taking a well-deserved Easter holiday.

Warm Wishes for a Break

Taking to her Instagram account, Susanna shared a cheerful photo of herself in the familiar GMB studio, accompanied by a caption that read: 'LOVE IT! I am just hopping off for my Easter break - back @gmb on Monday, April 13.' This announcement prompted an outpouring of affectionate comments from her followers.

One enthusiastic fan wrote: 'Have a lovely Easter break!' while another added: 'Absolutely stunning have a great time off.' A third viewer suggested: 'Treat yourself to some nice easter eggs.' Further messages included: 'Have a great holiday.' and 'You deserve a break as well.' clearly demonstrating the strong connection Susanna has cultivated with her audience over the years.

Hosting Changes and Viewer Reactions

With Susanna temporarily away, the March 30th edition of Good Morning Britain was instead fronted by Kate Garraway and Paul Brand. However, this hosting combination has recently faced significant criticism from a segment of the programme's viewership.

Frustrated viewers took to social media platforms to voice their complaints, particularly targeting the presenting style of Ranvir Singh. Many accused Ranvir, 48, of consistently talking over her co-presenter Kate Garraway, 58, during broadcasts. Kate is a veteran of morning television, having presented GMTV for an impressive decade before joining GMB in April 2014. Ranvir joined the show the following month in May 2014, after making her morning TV debut on Daybreak in 2012.

Despite their combined experience, viewers expressed particular irritation with the presenters during a recent Friday edition, citing constant interruptions of guests. One disgruntled viewer blasted: 'Ranvir & Kate are useless, get them off and some decent presenters!!!!!!!'

Other comments echoed this sentiment: 'First time I've tuned in to your programme in a long time and all that woman who is presenting with Kate does, is interrupt and talk over people when they're making their point!' Another wrote: 'It's screaming Friday all shouting and interrupting from me me Kate and me me Ranvir.'

Chemistry Concerns and Previous Criticism

Some viewers offered more specific critiques, suggesting that the presenting duo simply lacked the necessary chemistry for smooth broadcasting. One observer noted: 'This was ruined for me because [Kate Garraway] had once again some interesting points mirroring mine but Ranvir keeps talking over her and also talks so loud poor Kate gets talked over. This chemistry isn't working. Pls lose Ranvir she's not a natural at this like #KateGarraway.'

This is not the first instance where Kate and Ranvir have faced viewer backlash. Earlier this month, they were accused of spoiling the ending of a major television programme without providing adequate warning to their audience.

Good Morning Britain continues to air on ITV1 and remains available for streaming on the ITVX platform, maintaining its position as a staple of British morning television despite these occasional controversies.
