Strictly Come Dancing favourite Kai Widdrington has secured a exciting new role off the dancefloor, describing it as a 'dream come true'. The professional dancer will be stepping into the presenter's booth to host two Christmas Specials for Magic Radio.
A Festive Dream Role
Widdrington expressed his sheer delight at the new opportunity. The special programmes are scheduled to air on Sunday 21st December at 6pm and Thursday 24th December at 7pm. During the shows, he promises to share a personally curated playlist of his festive favourites, blending music he has danced to in the famous Strictly ballroom with tracks that hold special meaning for him.
Listeners can expect to hear an array of iconic artists, from Elton John and Stevie Nicks to Wham!, the Spice Girls, and The Pogues' classic with Kirsty MacColl. Beyond the music, Kai plans to let fans in on some cherished Widdrington family traditions, including the fact that his mother insists the whole family sits down together to watch the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special on the big day itself.
From Dance Floor to Airwaves
'I'm thrilled to be sharing my music loves with Magic Radio listeners this Christmas!' Kai said. He revealed he has long been a fan of the station, tuning in when he needs 'good vibes, good music, and that bit of sparkle'. He added that Christmas is his absolute favourite time of year, loving the lights, the songs, and the warm feeling it brings, making this hosting job a particular treat.
This announcement comes as Kai prepares to feature in the televised Strictly Christmas Special, where he will partner with All Saints star Melanie Blatt. His main series run this year, however, was cut short. Paired with reality TV star Vicky Pattison, the couple were eliminated in a surprise exit just one week before the coveted Blackpool special.
Vicky Pattison's Post-Strictly Blues
The elimination hit Vicky Pattison hard. She recently opened up on Pete Wicks' 'Staying Relevant' podcast, revealing she was left devastated and 'couldn't snap out of it for a week' after the judges chose to save EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal in the dance-off.
Despite a strong support network of famous friends, including Sara Davies and Tom Fletcher who reached out to her, Vicky admitted she wallowed at home. Her mindset only shifted when another former contestant told her they were upset for a whole year after leaving the show. The former Geordie Shore star decided that timeframe was not for her, reflecting positively on her Strictly journey as someone who had never danced sober before and gave it her all.
Listeners can catch Kai Widdrington's festive specials on Magic Radio via DAB digital radio, online, through the Rayo app, or by asking their smart speaker to 'Play Magic Radio'.
