AEG Presents, the company behind All Points East and LIDO festivals, has applied to Tower Hamlets Council for planning permission to use Victoria Park for up to 75 days a year for the next six years. The application follows a High Court ruling that festival setup and takedown days must be included in the total days of use.
The proposed 75-day period includes construction and deconstruction of the festival site, with AEG stating it intends to occupy the park for up to 66 days but seeks flexibility for weather delays. The company argues this does not represent an intensification of use compared to previous years.
This year, All Points East is scheduled over six days across two weekends in August, with LIDO festival on the August bank holiday. AEG also plans a four-day midweek community festival between the two weekends. Setup begins on 7 August, with takedown completed by 9 September.
In future years, AEG hopes to run LIDO as a multi-day event. The application notes a break of at least 28 days between the two festivals to allow the park to return to public use. Tickets for this year's events are already on sale, despite planning permission not yet being granted.
