Reuben Owen Co-Star Capper Flooded with Support After Emotional Episode

Capper, a co-star on Channel 5's Reuben Owen's Life in the Dales, has expressed gratitude to fans following an emotional episode that he described as “hard to film.” The episode, which aired last week, featured Capper and fellow cast member Sonny bravely discussing their experiences with grief and mental health.

Emotional Episode Sparks Support

During the episode, Capper and Sonny broke down in tears as they paid tribute to friends they had lost and shared the challenges they have faced from a young age. They discussed men's mental health and pledged to raise money for a charity, highlighting their own need for support in recent years.

Sonny first took to social media to thank fans for their overwhelming support, and Capper has now followed suit. In a video shared on Instagram, Capper thanked his followers, saying, “I hope you all enjoyed watching our show on Tuesday night. It was a hard one to film, but it’s been well worth doing. The positive feedback that we’ve had has been unreal.”

Nearly £4000 Raised for Charity

Capper continued, “It struck a chord, it really did. I sound soft again but thank you very much, what we’ve raised so far has been brilliant.” He echoed Sonny's words that “every little helps,” adding, “You may be proud of us, but we’re proud of you.” In the caption, he wrote, “Thanks for all your kind comments and generous donations, it really means the world to us. We’ve raised nearly £4000 now!!!”

Fans flooded the comments section with messages of support. One wrote, “Amazing show and you lot are amazing people - keep doing what you are doing, you have so much support and love.” Another commented, “You guys are ALL an inspiration to EVERYONE! Thank you for sharing your lives. Such a feel good programme. Remember, you are not alone.”

Sharing Personal Stories of Loss

During the episode, Capper opened up about his personal experiences with loss. He shared, “When you lose someone, it’s hard. It’s not nice, so you need somewhere to be where you can just have a moment to yourself.” He revealed that he first dealt with grief at age seven and lost a best friend at 16. “My pal died in a road accident, and I was with him 20 minutes before he died. It was a right wet night, it was horrible. He drove there and never made it back home. About half an hour later, I got the phone call… it was nasty.”

Sonny also shared a heartbreaking story, recalling a close friend who died by suicide. “I lost my pal, unfortunately, to suicide. He was like a brother. I was speaking to him the night before, got the phone call the next morning. They couldn’t bring him back.” Capper comforted him, saying, “It’s ok to not be ok, everyone has their battles, and I’m very lucky I’ve got you, boys.”

Praise for Bravery and Charity Work

Viewers praised both Capper and Sonny for their bravery in discussing mental health. One fan wrote, “Nothing soft about what you and Sonny said, it inspired me to donate as I’m sure it did to others. Thank you.” Another echoed, “Not soft at all, mate shows the strength you both have.”

Capper expressed hope that their late friends would be proud of their efforts. “I think our pals would be proud of us,” he said. Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.
