English singer and performer FKA twigs brought her unique artistic flair to the streets of New York City this Thursday, captivating onlookers with an impromptu dance performance while promoting her latest musical offering.
Street Performance Turns Heads
The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, showcased her impressive dance moves in Hudson Square during a filming session. This promotional appearance comes ahead of the release of Eusexua Afterglow, marking her fourth studio album which dropped on 14 November through Young and Atlantic Records.
FKA twigs made a striking fashion statement during the outdoor session, sporting studded leather hotpants with tights that highlighted her long legs, complemented by a leather jacket. Her edgy ensemble was completed with Balenciaga platform knee heel boots and a black Heliot Emil bag, while she listened to music through headphones during the lively street performance.
Album Release and Recent Controversies
The new album has been preceded by two main singles titled Cheap Hotel and Predictable Girl, building anticipation among her dedicated fanbase. However, the promotional activities come after a period of controversy for the artist.
Earlier this year, FKA twigs faced scrutiny when she appeared on the Met Gala 2025 red carpet after having cancelled a recent string of US tour dates due to what were described as 'ongoing visa issues'. The cancellation included highly anticipated performances at Coachella and other US and Latin America dates scheduled for late March.
The Met Gala appearance sparked confusion among fans on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with many questioning how visa problems could prevent tour performances but not affect her attendance at the prestigious fashion event.
Addressing the Visa Confusion
The artist later provided clarification about the situation through a video posted online, explaining that the visa issues stemmed from her production team's failure to file the correct paperwork in time for her US shows.
"I wanted to come on here to talk to you and address some things that have been happening behind the scenes in my world," FKA twigs shared. "Behind the scenes practically with production and the more practical side of putting this tour together so today I was informed that production did not fill out the correct paperwork in a timely manner to have our visas to come for the USA to perform."
She expressed her devastation about the cancelled shows, stating: "I don't take this lightly, I am completely devastated to be honest with you, I am heartbroken." The singer promised to reschedule the affected performances, which included dates in Chicago, Illinois on March 26, Toronto, Canada on March 30, and two shows in New York on April 3 and 4.
The recent street dancing session in New York signals a positive turn for the artist, who successfully took the stage on May 1 at the grand opening of GITANO NYC, marking her first US appearance since the cancelled tour dates. That performance impressed attendees including Chloë Sevigny, Luann de Lesseps, and Adam Lambert, showcasing her signature sultry vocals and magnetic stage presence that fans have been eagerly awaiting.
