Netflix has officially renewed its hit romantic comedy-drama Emily in Paris for a sixth season, promising fans more adventures for the American marketing executive in the French capital and beyond.
Renewal Announcement and Italian Adventures
The streaming giant confirmed the news shortly after the debut of the show's fifth series in December 2025. The announcement was made in a characteristically playful Netflix video, which showed star Lily Collins blowing out a candle shaped like the number six, perched on a croissant.
The recently aired fifth season saw protagonist Emily Cooper, played by Collins, relocate temporarily to Rome. Tasked with launching a new office, she also embarked on a romance with luxury fashion heir Marcello Muratori, portrayed by Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini.
Creator's Vision and Future Locations
Series creator Darren Star addressed the show's future direction in December. While emphasising the show's permanent home base, he expressed enthusiasm for taking audiences on new journeys.
"There’s a lot of places I’d love to visit," Star stated. "But I think the show organically follows the storyline. The show is Emily in Paris. It’s never going to permanently leave its home base. But if I can take the audience on a journey somewhere else, I would love that … it’s fun to think about."
This teasing comment has sparked widespread speculation among fans about where Emily might jet off to next, though Netflix has yet to announce a transmission date for the new series.
A European Political Love Triangle
The show's fifth season move to Italy ignited a light-hearted diplomatic spat between French President Emmanuel Macron and Rome’s Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
When the Rome setting was announced last year, President Macron vowed to "fight hard" to keep the series in Paris, declaring "Emily in Paris in Rome doesn’t make sense."
Mayor Gualtieri swiftly responded on social media platform X with a winky face emoji, writing: "Take it easy, Emmanuel Macron. Emily in Rome is perfect. And besides, you can’t command the heart: let’s let her choose."
At the season five premiere in Paris, Lily Collins, 36, humorously addressed the leaders' banter. "I never expected in a million years we would be a part of a European political love triangle," she laughed, according to Variety.
The renewal solidifies the show's status as a major global hit for Netflix, blending fashion, romance, and culture with a dash of international intrigue.
