Britain's Favourite Decade Revealed: The 1990s Tops the List
Britain's Favourite Decade: The 1990s Wins

A recent survey has unveiled Britain's favourite decade, and it is not the swinging sixties or the naughty noughties. The decade that Britons miss the most is the 1990s, an era defined by Cool Britannia, the Spice Girls, Saturday-morning television, Friends, Blockbuster video rentals, and vibrant nights out.

The poll of 2,000 UK adults, conducted by The Bingo Association, found that the 1990s garnered over a third of the vote (36%), comfortably ahead of the 1980s (27%). The research indicates a strong yearning for simpler times, with 70% of respondents expressing a desire for activities that help them disconnect from smartphones.

Nostalgic Pastimes on the Rise

Nostalgic nights out are surging in popularity, with options ranging from bingo to cinema visits. Over half (54%) have recently been to the cinema, while amusement arcades (30%) and bowling alleys (27%) also rank highly. Bingo clubs (15%) are experiencing a revival as a nostalgic pastime.

Respondents also cited less time spent on technology (41%) and more face-to-face interaction (40%). Key trends associated with the decade include Friends (37%), the Spice Girls (31%), Game Boys (20%), and Saturday morning TV (25%).

Brits also felt the 1990s were more affordable for socialising (39%), reminded them of life before smartphones (37%), and fostered a stronger sense of community (34%).

National Bingo Week, running from June 22 to 28, offers an opportunity to participate, with a guaranteed £250,000 prize on June 28. Data shows nearly half (45%) of new bingo club members are under 35, and 69% believe bingo is no longer just for older generations.
