Meghan Markle’s latest Hollywood blunder is a clear signal she can never return to the UK – and it took place on the same day as the Trooping the Colour ceremony. The annual event celebrates the official birthday of the sovereign and is the biggest event in the royal calendar. While Prince William and Princess Catherine joined King Charles and Queen Camilla on the balcony, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were absent.
But Meghan refused to stay quiet about her life in Montecito, California, even on such a momentous day for the British royals. Instead, on that weekend Meghan hosted a mahjong game night with her famous friends, while Prince Harry attended the NBA Finals and served a barbecue at the Warrior Games.
Meghan’s Hollywood Distraction
Meghan invited her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen – a former model – to her California home for the game night. She previously hosted the game on her Netflix show With Love, Meghan – inviting her friends Tracy Robbins, Victoria Jackson and Jennifer Rudolph Walsh along. And on the exact same day as Trooping the Colour, Meghan released a new promotional video for her As Ever brand, pouring a glass of wine to sell it to the masses.
Just minutes before the ceremony started, her hubby Harry shared a video of his own relating to the Invictus Games – and didn’t mention the sovereign’s birthday event once.
A Self-Centered Approach
This proves to me more than anything else that despite the rumours abounding about the Sussexes, it simply isn’t time for them to make a UK return. The pair are much too self-centred at the moment to put the Royal Family first, and I can imagine that if they did pop back across the pond, they’d once again be eager to make it all about themselves rather than the greater good. It would mean British taxpayers funding Meghan’s posing and Harry’s own projects rather than the good work the rest of the royals do.
Personally, I think Harry and Meghan could afford to keep quiet just for one weekend, and let the royals do their thing. But no – they had to capitalise on the increased interest in the institution they turned their backs on to promote their own businesses. The less I have to hear about Meghan Markle’s wines, the better, but using Trooping the Colour to funnel search queries and social media attention to the As Ever brand is as underhanded as it gets.
