Love Island stars Lola Deal and Sean Fitzgerald have revealed that ITV producers had to intervene after hearing their private conversations about wanting to leave the villa. The couple, who were dumped just days before the final, admitted they had been discussing their departure for over a week before producers stepped in.
Producers Intervene After Repeated Discussions
Speaking on the Showbiz Fix podcast, Sean Fitzgerald disclosed: "We probably talked about it I'd say every day. I'd say for a week and a half probably before it happened, we were talking about it most days saying 'Oh will we just go today?'" The pair felt they were not gaining anything from the experience, having been partnered from the start, and their only highlight was spending 24 hours together daily.
Sean also confessed he was "sick of the tests" in the villa, adding: "I was like 'alright we've had enough tests we can leave?'" Producers naturally picked up on their scheme and held a discussion with them. Sean explained: "Obviously they'd be kind of like 'Oh no you know, you stay' and all this kind of stuff."
Voluntary Exit Shocks Viewers
The couple's decision to leave came after they found themselves in the bottom three following a public vote. Fan favourites Lorenzo Alessi and Julia Majchrzak were tasked with eliminating a couple, but Lola and Sean volunteered themselves to save the other at-risk pairs. Lorenzo and Julia respected their wishes, leaving viewers at home shocked by the selfless twist.
Lola added: "I think we'd sort of made our minds up a little bit." The ex-detective believed it was the right time to end their villa adventure.
Final Words on Departure
Upon leaving, Lola told ITV: "I think it was the perfect end to our journey. Me and Sean were really happy to have gone. I think we had the most incredible time there. We met the most incredible people and most of all, we found each other." Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
