London Marathon 2027 Ballot: How to Apply for Two-Day Race
London Marathon 2027: Ballot Guide for Two-Day Event

After a record-breaking London Marathon in 2026, runners have already begun applying for a place at next year’s race. More than a million people applied for the 2026 ballot, and 1.33 million applications have been received for the 2027 ballot. Fortunately for hopeful participants, more places are expected to be available following confirmation that the event will take place over two days.

When does the ballot open for the 2027 London Marathon?

The ballot for the 2027 TCS London Marathon opened on April 24 and closed on May 1.

How do I apply for a place in the ballot?

The ballot for the London Marathon can be accessed at tcslondonmarathon.com. It is a completely random draw, similar to the National Lottery. Ballot results will be announced by early July. Entry to the ballot is free, but successful applicants must pay a £79.99 entry fee. International entries cost £225.

Entrants can double their chances of securing a place by paying £49.99 upfront, which grants entry into a second ballot. If unsuccessful in both ballots, participants will receive a hydration vest worth £100 as a consolation prize.

When is the London Marathon in 2027?

The London Marathon will take place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April 2027. All ballot entrants are automatically entered for both days, though they can only participate in one.

How many places are available?

It is expected that more than 59,000 people were on the start line for the 2026 marathon. However, not all places are allocated through the ballot; runners can also gain entry via charity, a qualifying fast time, or through a British Athletics club. The two-day format should significantly increase the chance of securing a place, potentially doubling the number of participants.

How else can I get a place in the London Marathon 2027?

If you can run a “good for age” time, you may qualify for a reserved place. Organisers typically set aside around 6,000 places for runners who achieve a “good for age” time for their sex. Another option is to obtain a place through a charity, which requires a commitment to reach a fundraising goal—often thousands of pounds. Failure to meet the target may result in not being allowed to run.
