Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared to aim a pointed dig at fellow World Cup pundit Alexi Lalas during FOX Sports' live coverage, calling him 'ignorant' in a tense exchange. The pair, alongside Thierry Henry, are covering the tournament across North America for the American network.
Clash Over Arrogance vs Confidence
Following France's 3-1 victory over Senegal, Lalas attempted to spark a debate about whether the French team displayed arrogance in the first half. 'The reality is, if they are arrogant, it's because they can do things like that,' Lalas said, referencing their improved second-half performance.
Ibrahimovic countered sharply: 'It's not arrogance, it's confidence. Ignorant people will say it's arrogance; intelligent people, it's confidence.' As Ibrahimovic spoke, Henry stared wide-eyed into the camera, heightening the tension.
Previous Tensions
This is not the first clash between the two. After the USMNT's win over Paraguay, Ibrahimovic criticized Lalas for piling pressure on the squad. Presenter Rebecca Lowe had to intervene to move the segment along as the quarrel continued.
Ibrahimovic, known for his blunt honesty, also underwent a lie detector test for FOX Sports. When asked if he valued his fellow pundits' opinions, he answered yes, but the test indicated he was not entirely truthful. FOX Sports later invited the pundits to respond, and Ibrahimovic jabbed again: 'Rebecca, you look great. Thierry, you look sharp, Monsieur. Alexi ... we can discuss.' Despite this, he insisted it was 'all love' between them.
With only six days of the World Cup gone, Ibrahimovic and Lalas have already produced viral moments, keeping viewers entertained.
