The World Cup final on Sunday will make history with the first official half-time show, featuring a star-studded lineup curated by Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. The match between Spain and Argentina at New York New Jersey Stadium kicks off at 3pm local time (8pm UK).
Who Is Performing?
Six acts will perform during the 11-minute show: Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Burna Boy, and K-pop group BTS. Shakira and Burna Boy are expected to perform the tournament's official anthem, 'Dai Dai'. Madonna's appearance comes after her latest number one album, 'Confessions II'. BTS returns to the world stage after completing South Korea's compulsory military service, while Bieber joins following his comeback at Coachella earlier this year.
The show also includes Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus, and appearances from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
Why It's Making History
FIFA president Gianni Infantino introduced the idea to bring a Super Bowl-style spectacle to football. The usual 15-minute half-time break will be extended to around 25 minutes. Fans watching on BBC and ITV will see the full performance alongside pundit analysis.
Supporting a Global Cause
The performance supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aiming to raise $100 million (£75 million) to improve access to education and football for children worldwide. Infantino described it as a 'groundbreaking spectacle' that will 'celebrate football, music and our shared values, ensuring a legacy that transcends the final whistle'.
Closing Ceremony Details
Before kick-off, a closing ceremony 90 minutes before the match will feature Tom Cruise, Robbie Williams, and Jennifer Hudson performing the American national anthem. Nicole Scherzinger, Laura Pausini, and streamer IShowSpeed will also appear.
