In a deeply moving moment that left fans in tears, Westlife were forced to halt their Liverpool performance when emotional singer Mark Feehily became overwhelmed during a tribute to former band member Brian McFadden.
The boy band, currently touring their 'Wild Dreams' show, created an unforgettable scene at the M&S Bank Arena as Feehily struggled to continue singing their 2001 hit 'Uptown Girl'.
A Tribute Turns Emotional
During what should have been a celebratory moment, the band paused their performance as Feehily, visibly emotional, stepped away from the microphone. Fellow band members Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, and Shane Filan immediately rushed to his side, offering comfort and support.
The emotional trigger came as the band paid tribute to McFadden, who left Westlife back in 2004. Large screens displayed nostalgic footage of the original five-member lineup, including several touching moments featuring McFadden during the group's early years.
Fan Reaction and Support
Concert attendees described the atmosphere as "electric with emotion" as the 11,000-strong crowd rallied behind the distressed singer. Supportive cheers and applause filled the arena while Feehily composed himself.
After several minutes, a recovered Feehily returned to the microphone, telling the audience: "Some songs hit harder than others. That one brought back so many memories."
The Show Must Go On
The band demonstrated true professionalism, continuing their performance with renewed energy after the emotional pause. They delivered powerful renditions of their biggest hits, including 'Flying Without Wings' and 'World of Our Own', receiving standing ovations from the moved audience.
This isn't the first time Westlife have honoured their original lineup during the current tour, but it marks the most visibly emotional moment to date, highlighting the enduring bonds between the band members despite McFadden's departure nearly two decades ago.
