Sky News viewers expressed strong dissatisfaction with Trevor Phillips' Sunday morning politics show after a lengthy interview with former Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson dominated the episode. Phillips, who announced his departure from Sky News earlier this year to join CBS News as senior global affairs correspondent, faced accusations of bias and poor programming choices.
Viewers React to Lengthy Johnson Interview
One X user commented: “Trevor Phillips panel 19.07.26, introduced late after a 40 minute interview with Boris Johnson! Well done if you sat through that. I didn’t.” Another viewer posted: “Quite appropriate for the dreadful Trevor Phillips to have Johnson on what I hope is his final show. @SkyNews should have shown Phillips the red card a long time ago.”
A third critic wrote: “The normally assertive Trevor Phillips on @skynews unable to get a word in edgeways interviewing Boris (I am not sure why he is a guest). Comical.” Another viewer fumed: “Wow. The intro music is still playing and Trevor Phillips is already gunning for Andy Burnham and mocking his prospects. Not a great way to start a show that is supposed to be a balanced view of politics.”
Some Viewers Praised the Interview
Despite the backlash, a minority of viewers enjoyed the segment. One social media user said: “Oh so late to the show regarding @SkyNews & Trevor Phillips on Sunday mornings - 1st time I’ve watched him and he’s brilliant.”
Phillips announced his departure from Sky News earlier this year, with Sky News’ executive chairman David Rhodes stating: “Sir Trevor Phillips has brought audiences insightful conversations every Sunday - at Sky News we’re grateful for all that he has contributed. I know Trevor will bring the best of that to America with this exciting new opportunity. We wish him every success.”
