Van Damme Recalls Sleeping in Car Outside Chuck Norris's House in Early Days

Jean-Claude Van Damme has paid tribute to Chuck Norris following the martial arts legend's death at the age of 86. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Van Damme shared several photos of the pair and wrote: 'Deepest condolences on the passing of my friend, Chuck Norris. We knew each other from my early days, and I always respected the man he was. My heart and prayers are with his family. He will never be forgotten.'

Speaking to the Mirror, Van Damme recalled how he met Norris in his late teens while struggling to break into the acting industry with limited English. His fortunes changed after an invitation to the home of 'Enter the Dragon' star Bob Wall, who urged Norris to meet Van Damme, saying he had 'never saw legs like this before.'

Following that introduction, the pair began early morning training sessions. Van Damme said: 'I would travel for two hours to train with him.' He admitted he would sometimes sleep in his car outside Norris's house to avoid being late. The training often involved sparring with what Van Damme described as 'wackos' and world champions such as Joe Jackson.

Van Damme's connection with Norris led to his film debut in 'Missing in Action' (1984), shot in the Philippines, and later to his breakout role in 'Bloodsport'. Norris's family confirmed his sudden passing on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, stating he was surrounded by family and at peace.
