Susanna Reid has responded to speculation that Piers Morgan could be making a return to Britain's Got Talent. The broadcaster, 61, served as a judge on the ITV talent programme from its debut in 2007 through to 2010, and is now rumoured to be returning for its 20th anniversary next year.
Reaction to Return Rumours
Piers has stoked the speculation by posting a pair of eyes emoji in reaction to reports about "two huge stars" returning to the programme. Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday (October 12), Susanna disclosed that she questioned her former colleague directly about the claims, and he merely replied with a laughing emoji.
The ITV presenter added: "Then I noticed that he wasn't denying it. Whatever happens, he definitely wants us to talk about it."
Past Comments on the Show
Susanna continued: "He has always said that in its hey day, when he was on the judging panel, Britain's Got Talent had its highest ratings, its greatest appeal. So what do they need? They need Piers Morgan back on the judging panel."
Piers departed the BGT judging panel in 2010, citing the need to concentrate on his CNN chat programme, Piers Morgan Live. At the time, he stated: "There's been considerable speculation about what my new CNN job means for my role on Britain's Got Talent. Well, sadly, I can now confirm that I will have to quit BGT, as I will be ensconced in New York interviewing popes, presidents, pugilists and popstars when the auditions are filmed next year."
Potential Reunion with Original Judges
The former Good Morning Britain host revealed ITV executives contacted him "several times" about rejoining the judging panel in 2020. He explained: "I was approached several times to go back to Britain's Got Talent when Simon Cowell got injured. That would have been quite fun, but I'd rather do it with him."
Piers added: "He and I had a great chemistry and it would have been quite a fun one to go back in and have a laugh with Simon, but he'd have to be involved. I've seen how other people are with him."
More than 16 years on, Piers could potentially reunite with original judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, alongside Alesha Dixon and KSI. An insider told The Sun: "A 20th anniversary extravaganza is in the works as producers work out which familiar faces to bring back to celebrate the huge milestone. Simon, Piers and Amanda had such fun chemistry. The idea would be to bring Piers back as a guest judge for the January auditions."
