Steps Star Lee Latchford-Evans Welcomes Second Child

Steps star Lee Latchford-Evans has joyfully announced that his wife Kerry-Lucy has given birth to their second child. The singer, aged 51, shared the happy news via an Instagram post on Saturday, posting a black and white photograph of himself leaving the hospital with their newborn baby.

A Journey Through Heartbreak and Hope

The couple, who tied the knot in 2012 and are already parents to four-year-old son Leo, have previously endured the heartbreaking loss of a miscarriage. This new arrival marks a significant milestone in their family journey, coming after years of challenges and resilience.

Traumatic First Birth Experience

In 2021, Lee and Kerry-Lucy opened up about the difficult birth of their first child, Leo. The delivery was complicated by Leo being in the breech position, necessitating an emergency Caesarean section for Kerry-Lucy. Additionally, she suffered from pre-eclampsia, a serious condition characterised by high blood pressure during pregnancy.

Kerry-Lucy recounted to OK! Magazine the terrifying moment when the anaesthesia for her C-section failed to take effect. She was forced to receive additional medication and an epidural before the surgery could proceed. 'They lowered the curtains slightly so I could see him be lifted out and it was quite amazing I saw this little person,' she said, describing the emotional moment of Leo's birth.

Post-Operative Challenges and Teamwork

Following the operation, Kerry-Lucy was placed on bedrest, thrusting Lee into the primary caregiver role for their newborn. Lee reflected on this period, noting his wife's natural instinct to care for others. 'Kerry likes to look after people, that’s her natural instinct. So for Kerry not to be able to do anything was quite frustrating for her. You could see she just wanted to help. But now she can carry him around and hold him and move a bit better. We’re a good team,' he explained.

Appreciation Born from Loss

The couple has spoken candidly about how their experience of miscarriage has deepened their appreciation for their children. Lee expressed this sentiment, saying, 'We know what it's like to be on both sides of the spectrum of having a baby. We feel really blessed.' They revealed that they 'appreciate him so much more' after tragically losing a child, highlighting the emotional complexity of their path to parenthood.

Struggles with Fertility and Resentment

In April 2021, the pair shared their joy at expecting a baby after a previous miscarriage. Lee discussed the emotional toll of their fertility struggles, admitting to feelings of doubt and frustration. 'We've wanted a baby for so long. We did start thinking, "Why isn't this working for us? What's wrong with us?" You doubt each other slightly, but luckily we have a very strong relationship,' he told OK! magazine.

He also confessed to experiencing resentment during a period when many friends were having children. 'We went through a time where all of our friends were pregnant and people were always walking past us with prams and I guess we hated that and had a bit of resentment towards them, which I know we shouldn't but it was difficult and frustrating,' Lee revealed, offering a raw insight into the psychological impact of infertility.

Announcing the Pregnancy

Kerry-Lucy appeared on Loose Women and recounted the humorous yet anxious moment she confirmed her first pregnancy. She said, 'I had to do three tests to convince Lee it was positive. The first was a faint line. I told him I think I'm pregnant and he said no. I got another one and the line was thick but he didn't believe it.' Lee added, 'I didn't believe it so the next day Kerry did a digital test so I couldn't argue with that one. So far, it's all going well.'

Lee also shared the heartwarming reaction of his Steps bandmates—Claire Richards, Ian 'H' Watkins, Faye Tozer, and Lisa Scott Lee—when he announced the pregnancy. 'It was wonderful telling them. We were on Zoom playing the year ahead and I told them I was going to be busy and put the scan up. They were crying with tears of joy. There was so much going on - I filmed it to show to Kelly,' he recalled, highlighting the supportive network around them.
