Serena Williams Faces Backlash Over Parenting Discipline Story
Serena Williams Mocked for Parenting Discipline Story

Tennis icon Serena Williams offered a glimpse into her parenting style on Sunday night, drawing both derision and support from social media users. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who retired in 2022, has been spending more time with her family, including husband Alexis Ohanian and daughters Olympia and Adira.

Williams Shares Discipline Incident

In a post on X, Williams recounted a moment with her eldest daughter, Olympia. 'I told my daughter to go to bed. She did not therefore, she missed out on her sleep over,' she wrote. 'She cried. But what she did not know is I cried harder. I hate when she cries. Discipline sucks. But sometimes it’s important.'

Mixed Reactions Online

The post sparked a wave of comments. Some mocked Williams, with one user writing, 'She cried and I cried harder Whhaaaatttt My momma would be laughing at me crying while eating.' Another questioned, 'Why is Serena Williams tweeting like a Nigerian engagement farming account?' A bewildered fan added, 'I had to double check that this was the real Serena Williams haha.'

However, others praised her approach. 'Be assertive in your decision, she will thank you later,' one commenter posted. Another said, 'This is true. Disciplining children is hard for the parents. But it’s essential. Indulging the children always isn’t good for them.' One supporter wrote, 'This is how you parent. And it does suck but teaching these little folks the importance of discipline is the way. No matter how much it breaks our hearts. Because it’s about them and their future not our feelings.'

Williams, who has been focusing on her business ventures and family life since retiring, continues to share personal moments with her fans, even when they prove controversial.
