Scott Mills Dismissed by BBC Amid Historic Relationship Allegations

Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills has been fired by the BBC following a complaint about his personal conduct, with reports suggesting the dismissal relates to a historic male relationship from over a decade ago. The 53-year-old star, who earned between £355,000 and £359,999 annually, was taken off air last week as bosses investigated the claim before announcing his termination on Monday.

The Ultimate Relationship Test: Celebrity Race Across the World

Mills and his husband, producer Sam Vaughan, previously described competing in the BBC show Celebrity Race Across the World as the 'ultimate test of their relationship'. The couple, who have been together since 2017, participated in the gruelling cross-country expedition in 2024, racing approximately 12,500 km across South America from Belém, Brazil, to the Osorno Volcano in Frutillar, Chile.

Despite facing challenges like language barriers and intense heat, they emerged victorious in the second series, beating competitors Kola Bokinni and Mary Ellen Moriarty by 2 hours and 20 minutes after starting the final leg in third place. Mills remarked that the experience was like a holiday test 'times a thousand', adding, 'If we can get through this, we can get through anything basically.'

Marriage and Celebrity Wedding in Barcelona

Just two months after wrapping filming, Mills and Vaughan married in Barcelona in a ceremony attended by celebrity guests including Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, Jordan North, Calvin Harris, and Vick Hope, with Mills' former co-host Chris Stark serving as Master of Ceremonies. Vaughan noted that 2024 was their 'year of big challenges', combining the race with marriage to strengthen their bond.

BBC's Statement and Aftermath

The BBC confirmed Mills' departure in a statement, saying, 'While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.' The corporation has not disclosed details of the personal conduct complaint, but the Daily Mirror claims it involves a historic male relationship from more than ten years ago.

Mills was last on air on Tuesday, with veteran DJ Gary Davies replacing him from Wednesday onwards. It is reported that Mills was informed of his sacking over the weekend, marking a sudden end to his role after taking over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in 2025.

This dismissal now presents what may be the biggest test yet for Mills' marriage, following the couple's previous triumph in Celebrity Race Across the World. As they navigated the highs and lows of the competition to 'cement us as a relationship even stronger', they now face the fallout from this professional and personal controversy.
