Sarah Jessica Parker's Festive Ban on Brodericks in $35M Home Revealed
Sarah Jessica Parker's Christmas Ban on Husband Matthew Broderick

Ahead of the Christmas holiday, Sarah Jessica Parker has playfully revealed a strict household rule directed at her husband of 28 years, Matthew Broderick. The actress shared a glimpse into her festive preparations, alongside significant updates on her career and family philosophy.

A Festive Ban in the West Village

On Monday, the 60-year-old star posted a photo to her 10 million Instagram followers of a makeshift sign taped to a door. It read: 'No entry if your surname is Broderick.' Parker was deep in gift-wrapping mode at what she dubbed 'Santa's workshop' inside the couple's luxurious $35 million West Village compound in New York, listening to Shirley Bassey as she worked 'until the work is done.'

In a video panning across her hardwood floor, the two-time Emmy winner proudly showcased her collection, declaring, 'All my old vintage wrapping paper!' The lighthearted ban ostensibly applies to her 63-year-old husband and their three children: 23-year-old son James and 16-year-old fraternal twin daughters, Loretta and Tabitha.

Parenting Philosophy and Career Moves

The family update comes months after Parker, an executive producer on The Librarians, made headlines for her approach to parenting and wealth. In May, she explained to E! News that she and Broderick, with a reported combined fortune of $245 million, do not plan to bankroll their children's lives indefinitely.

'You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying,' Parker stated. 'And [we want them] to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves - emotionally, financially.' She emphasised the importance of her children becoming reliable, self-sufficient individuals.

Her son James, a Brown University graduate in classics, is already forging his own path as a full-time actor. He guest-starred alongside his father in a February episode of CBS's Elsbeth.

What's Next for the Star?

Parker recently said farewell to her $10 million-per-season role as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO Max's And Just Like That, following the show's cancellation in August. Her next project will likely see her reprise the beloved witchy role of Sarah Sanderson in Hocus Pocus 3 for Disney+, reuniting with co-stars Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy.

In October, Midler confirmed she had read a 'brilliant script' for the three-quel, with producers working on costs and logistics. Original cast member Thora Birch has also expressed she is 'super open to the idea' of returning.

Meanwhile, Matthew Broderick remains busy on the stage and screen. He is currently starring in the off-Broadway play Molière's Tartuffe in Manhattan's East Village until January 25. The two-time Tony winner has also signed on for the American premiere of Ulster American off-Broadway in March and has film projects including Pretend I'm Not Here and The Best Is Yet to Come alongside former Ferris Bueller castmate Alan Ruck.
