Queen Camilla's Awkward Encounter with Ruth Jones Over Weight Loss

Queen Camilla experienced an awkward moment with Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones during a visit to Merthyr Tydfil on Friday for King Charles's 77th birthday. The royal couple attended celebrations at Cyfarthfa Castle, where they were greeted by Welsh celebrities including Ruth Jones.

Upon meeting the actress, Queen Camilla initially did not recognise her, but then exclaimed: 'Haven’t you lost masses of weight?' Ms Jones, who has been open about her weight loss journey, replied: 'Yes, I have, thank you! I’ve lost a bit of weight.'

The 59-year-old writer and actress has previously spoken about losing 4.5 stone over 22 months, attributing her success to portion control and calorie monitoring rather than fad diets. She also revealed using hypnotherapy to develop an aversion to chocolate, which lasted five years.

Ms Jones told the Table Manners podcast that she initially approached hypnotherapy with scepticism. She said: 'You think of something you hate eating, then think of the chocolate — and keep alternating. I remembered how mushy peas were on the school dinner menu. It completely worked.'

Reflecting on her weight loss, Ms Jones said: 'I came back from holiday in January 2010 — and we all overdo it on holiday, don’t we? Something just clicked. I felt it was now or never; I wanted to make a positive change for me.'
