Rod Stewart has shared a touching anniversary tribute to his wife Penny Lancaster. The Maggie May rocker, 81, took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to share a snap from his 2007 wedding day with the former model, 55.
Romantic Gesture
Referencing his 1984 hit in the caption, he wrote over the snap: "27 years of my life spent with this stunning Lady. Happy 19th wedding anniversary my darling Penny. Some guys have all the luck."
How They Met
Sir Rod first met his third wife Penny at a party at the Dorchester Hotel in 1999 when she was 27-years-old and he was 53 at the time. They crossed paths after Penny's friend dared her to ask the singer for an autograph.
After a brief conversation, Rod offered Penny a job as his tour photographer and took her details. However, his friend reportedly withheld her number from him for six months to ensure the singer was emotionally ready to try dating again after his recent split from his second wife, Rachel Hunter.
Rod later asked Penny out on a first date to see the tour photos she had taken and the rest is history.
Family Life
The pair tied the knot after seven years together in a romantic ceremony in Portofino, Italy. Ahead of their wedding, they welcomed their first son Alistair in 2005 and their second son Aiden came later in 2011.
The couple share a large blended family with Rod having eight kids across five different women and Penny taking on the role of stepmother to his six older children. However, Rod's eldest child, Sarah, is actually seven years older than Penny after he had her when he was just a teen and she was put up for adoption.
World Cup Excitement
Rod's sweet message for his wife comes after he flew out to Boston last week to cheer on Scotland at the World Cup. The star posted a video on a private jet alongside his oldest son as he announced he was off to see Scotland's match against Haiti which finished 1-0.
In the clip, he said: "Here we are flying off to Boston to see Scotland in the World Cup. It's been 28 years so these kids.. I've told them about [it] but they've never been... I've been to seven World Cups. Argentina, Germany, France, Italy, Mexico, loads of them... this'll be my seventh. We want them to get through to the next round and I'll die a happy man. Come on, Scotland."
His trip to the US came the following day after the rocker pulled out of a gig in California due to being struck down by illness.
Rod, whose father was Scottish, is known to be a devoted Scotland national team and Celtic fan. So he will have been very pleased to witness Scotland's first World Cup victory in 36 years on Saturday evening after John McGinn's goal shot Scotland to the top of Group C.
