The glittering world of Dancing on Ice has been hit with a major setback as professional skater Robin Johnstone, partnered with boxing icon Ricky Hatton, has been forced to pull out of the competition entirely.
The devastating blow comes after Johnstone sustained a significant injury during training, shattering the duo's hopes of lifting the famous trophy. An ITV spokesperson confirmed the news, stating the skater is "unable to continue in the competition" due to the severity of the damage.
This leaves Ricky Hatton's future on the show hanging in the balance. The 45-year-old former world champion boxer now faces an anxious wait to see if producers will pair him with a new professional partner or if his journey on the ice has come to a premature end.
The show's official Instagram account broke the news to its followers, posting: "Unfortunately, due to an injury sustained in training, professional skater Robin Johnstone is unable to continue in the competition. We wish Robin a speedy recovery."
Fans were quick to flood social media with messages of support for Robin, with one writing: "Gutted for them both! Wishing Robin a speedy recovery." Another added: "Ah no! They were such a great partnership. Hope Ricky gets another chance."
This isn't the first hurdle for the pair. Their debut during the launch show was controversially pre-recorded due to Hatton's initial fears and confidence issues on the ice. Now, with his partner out, Hatton must overcome yet another enormous challenge if he is to continue his surprising journey from the boxing ring to the rink.
