Rebel Wilson Crowned Worst Actress of 2025 at Golden Raspberry Awards

Australian actress Rebel Wilson has clinched the dubious honour of Worst Actress of 2025 at the Golden Raspberry Awards, commonly known as the Razzies. The 46-year-old star received this notorious accolade for her performance in the critically panned action-comedy Bride Hard, which has been universally condemned by film reviewers.

The Razzies Ceremony and Its Notorious Winners

The Golden Raspberry Awards, established in 1981 as a satirical counterpart to the Oscars, annually spotlight Hollywood's most disappointing cinematic efforts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the organisation boasts over 1,000 voting members across more than two dozen countries, with winners determined through an online voting process.

The awards board specifically cited Wilson for her not-quite-believable performance as an action hero in Bride Hard, where she portrays a secret agent who wreaks havoc during a bachelorette weekend. The film itself has been described as a catastrophic box office failure, earning a dismal 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on fifty professional reviews.

Scathing Critical Reception for Bride Hard

Released in 2025, Bride Hard was marketed as a hybrid of Die Hard and Bridesmaids, following a mercenary group that inadvertently takes a wedding party hostage, unaware that the maid of honour is actually an undercover operative. Critics were merciless in their assessments.

The Washington Post dismissed the film, stating: There's nothing wrong with a good, dumb comedy, but Bride Hard doesn't even qualify as in-flight entertainment. Meanwhile, The Straits Times criticised the ungrammatical title alone as grounds for divorce, and IndieWire declared it never funny, adding that this wedding feels like torture.

Australian critic Ben O'Shea of PerthNow delivered perhaps the most brutal verdict, writing: Things this critic would rather do instead of ever watching Bride Hard again include, but are not limited to, giving Donald Trump a back wax and personally removing the next fatberg from Perth's sewerage system. He further suggested it might be the worst film he has ever seen. The film currently holds a lacklustre 4.3 out of 10 rating on IMDb.

Other Notable Razzie Winners and Nominations

The ceremony also highlighted other cinematic disappointments. The sci-fi epic War of the Worlds received five humiliating awards, including Worst Actor for Ice Cube, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.

In the Worst Actress category, Wilson faced competition from Natalie Portman for Fountain of Youth, Michelle Yeoh for Star Trek: Section 31, Ariana Debose for Love Hurts, and Milla Jovovich for In the Lost Lands. Additionally, Wilson's Bride Hard co-stars Anna Chlumsky and Stephen Dorff received nominations for Worst Supporting Actress and Worst Supporting Actor respectively.

The Razzie Redeemer Award, recognising a positive element in an otherwise poor project, was presented to Kate Hudson for her performance in Song Sung Blue.

Bride Hard premiered in Australian cinemas in August 2025, where it continued to receive overwhelmingly negative feedback, solidifying its reputation as one of the year's most disastrous film releases.
