Gordon Ramsay's wedding speech 'dig' at Adam Peaty's absent family
Ramsay's speech dig at Peaty's absent family at wedding

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is reported to have made a subtle but pointed remark about his new son-in-law's family during a speech at his daughter's wedding to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. The lavish ceremony took place at Bath Abbey on Saturday 27 December 2025.

Speech Highlights Family Tensions

According to reports, the 59-year-old chef used his father-of-the-bride speech to allude to the notable absence of Peaty's parents. Ramsay is said to have told Peaty he was a "lucky man" while praising his daughter Holly's appearance, adding a reference to his own wife, Tana: "That's what you have to look forward to."

In an apparent swipe, he then reportedly turned to Holly and said, "Shame you don't have the same." The comment is believed to be a direct reference to the rift with Peaty's mother and father, who did not attend the wedding.

Roots of the Family Rift

The tension is rumoured to have begun when Peaty's mother, Caroline, was not invited to Holly's hen party at Soho Farmhouse in Chipping Norton. The celebration was attended by Holly's mother, sisters, and close friends.

The situation escalated online when a woman claiming to be Peaty's aunt, Louise, posted a lengthy comment on Holly's Instagram. She accused Holly of being "divisive and hurtful" towards Caroline, a woman who had "opened her home and heart" to her.

Ahead of the ceremony, Caroline Peaty gave an emotional, unpaid interview to the Daily Mail, stating she was "heartbroken" and that her family was "broken." She expressed her love for the couple and desire for them to have the best day, despite her pain.

A Star-Studded Day Amidst Personal Strain

Despite the family difficulties, the wedding was a major celebrity event. Guests included Sir David Beckham and his wife Victoria, along with their children. Channel 5's Dan Walker called it a "great wedding," and Strictly Come Dancing star Sara Davies praised the "beautiful" service and famously excellent food.

In his own speech, Peaty, 31, thanked the 200 guests for their support during a "difficult time," seemingly acknowledging the family situation. His sister Beth was the only immediate family member present, serving as maid of honour.

Following the wedding, Peaty changed his Instagram profile name to "Adam Ramsay Peaty," incorporating his new wife's surname. The couple, who got engaged in September 2024 after meeting through Peaty's sister in 2021, have not publicly commented on the speech or the family rift.
